Reader Annotation: At certain times of the day, there are various scenes happening across this land full of animals. See who’s doing what and watch out for Benny Badger.
Plot Summary: This book depicts three locations at various times in the day. At one point, a bunny might be getting ready for school while an owl is getting ready to go home. Listed above each illustration is a set of questions, asking the reader to find where each of the characters are in the sprawling settings. In all of them, though, is the pesky Benny Badger, up to no good, so it’s best to keep an eye out for him.
Critical Evaluation: This book is mainly illustrations that children are tasked with playing I-spy with. The illustrations are highly detailed and very lovely to look at. Finding each of the characters proves to be a fun task as you discover more and more interesting things hidden in the graphics. There are a lot of similarities to Richard Scarry’s work within these pages, but it’s done as a delightful homage in this German import.
Why Included: It’s a great game for children to play. It’s essentially the book form of hide-and-seek, but in a way that fosters one-on-one time with a child.
